Getting started
- Download the app for Mac or Windows and open it.
- Enter the email you subscribed with and your license key.
- Mac: when asked, turn on Full Disk Access for Capstone Files in System Settings, then quit and reopen the app. Without it, macOS will ask about each folder separately.
- Click Index my files. Everything is listed within minutes; scanned documents are read in the background over the following runs.
Mac App Store edition
Capstone File Finder is also on the Mac App Store. That edition needs no license key: click Start Free Trial on the first screen and confirm with your Apple Account. Then choose Folders › Add Folder and pick the folders to search. The 3-day trial and $9.99/month subscription are billed by Apple; manage or cancel it in System Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
"My key doesn't work"
Keys look like CF-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX and go with the email you used at checkout. A key works on up to 3 computers; to move it, open Capstone Files on one of the old computers and choose Deactivate this computer on the License page.
Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive
Install the provider's own desktop app and let it sync. Capstone Files finds the folder automatically and indexes it like any other. No sign-in inside Capstone Files is needed.
iPad
On your computer open Connectors → Phone & iPad access and turn it on. Scan the QR code with the iPad (same Wi-Fi), enter the 6-digit passcode, and use Share → Add to Home Screen for an app icon. The computer must be on and awake.
Windows: "Windows protected your PC"
Click More info → Run anyway. This warning appears for new downloads that Microsoft's SmartScreen has not seen many times yet.
Cancelling
Website subscription: use the link in your receipt email from Stripe, or email support. Mac App Store edition: System Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Search keeps working for a few days after the end of the period; your index stays on your computer either way.
